UPCOMING

COUNTRY SHOW — The Seguin Silver Center will host its monthly country music show on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. featuring guest entertainers Karlene Fey (Seguin); Mark Lee (Bastrop); Two and One-Half Angels (Ladies Trio); and Chris Rybak (Hallettsville). Food will be available from the Silver Center Kitchen. Doors open at 5 p.m. and admission is $5.

DEMOCRATIC CLUB — The Guadalupe County Democratic Club will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday on Nov. 20 at 607 Jefferson St. in Seguin. The purpose of this annual meeting will be to discuss ways the club can help take back Texas in 2010. Annual dues are still $10, and anyone who joins now pays for 2009 as well; you don’t need to be a member to attend and share ideas.

MASTER GARDENERS — Guadalupe County Master Gardeners will meet Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Texas AgriLife Extension Bldg at 210 E. Live Oak in Seguin. Tasha Brieger, owner of Hill Country Lavender near Blanco, will teach us all about lavenders. FRIDAY DANCE — The Silver Center will host a Friday night dance with the Texas Weather band playing 7:30-ll p.m. on Nov. 21. Doors open at 6 p.m. with homemade sandwiches available beginning at 6:30 p.m. Members are $6. and non members are $8.

POINSETTIA SALE — The Seguin High School NJROTC Booster Club will be selling poinsettias through Nov. 21. Cost is $12 and they will be ready for pick up at Green Gate on Hwy 123 on Dec. 6. Any person or business ordering 10 or more can have them delivered. Please contact any ROTC cadet or Booster Club member if you are interested. For more information call (830) 372-4174.

SANTA PICTURES — Support the Humane Society and get your child’s or pet’s picture with Santa Claus. Pictures are taken Nov. 21-22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bank of America, 210 W. Court St. Photos by Lynn Glenewinkel, different packages available. There will also be food, arts and crafts and a bake sale.

RELAY FUNDRAISER — Emanuel's Earth Angels Relay for Life team is hosting a sock hop at the Elks Lodge on Nov. 22 from 6-10 p.m. with a special appearance by The Harleys. The cost is $15 a person and includes a hamburger and a float. Tickets are available from any Earth Angels team member, at Keepers or the Emanuel's Lutheran Church office. FUN FISH — Palmetto State Park will have its last Family Fun Fish for the year on Nov. 22. Kids start at 9 a.m., no license is required and the event is free. There will be limited equipment for loan, as well as prizes and drawings. Call (830) 672-3266.

EMPTY BOWLS — The TLU Senior Seminar art class will be raising money for the Christian Cupboard with the Empty Bowls Project on Nov. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Hein Dining Hall. The group will be selling handmade bowls filled with homemade soup for $10-$15 each. The bowls will also be featured in a free art show opening Dec. 5 from 5-8 p.m.

DRT MEETING — The Abishai Mercer Dickson chapter of the Daughters of The Republic of Texas will meet at 11 a.m. on Nov. 25 at All Occasions Catering. Robert Stansberry will give a talk about Terry’s Texas Rangers, a cavalry unit in the Civil War.

HERITAGE-SEGUIN — Heritage-Seguin will meet Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Christina's Restaurant, 707 E. Kingsbury St. Dr. Irene Garza, Seguin ISD superintendent, will share information and discuss items of interest with the assembled group. This is a special opportunity for citizens to be better informed.

CRAFT SALE — A Christmas craft sale will be held Nov. 28-29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New Berlin Community Center. Vendor spots are available, for more info or to reserve a table contact Joy Strey at (830) 420-3185.

SYMPHONY POINSETTIAS — The Seguin Chapter of the Mid-Texas Symphony Guild is holding its annual poinsettia sale. Plants are $12 each and may be ordered at any Edward Jones office in Seguin. Deadline to order is Nov. 28. Plants can be picked up at the Silver Center on Dec. 5. Delivery in the Seguin area is available for two or more plants at the same address. Credit card orders for five or more plants may be placed by calling Kathy at 379-8534 (days) or Sandra at 372-2080 (evenings).

SUICIDE PREVENTION — A suicide prevention class will be held Nov. 29 from noon-3 p.m., at the Elks Lodge at 1331 C.H. Matthies Jr. For information call (830) 372-5980.

FLEA MARKET — The Seguin Elks Lodge No. 1229 will hold a huge ballroom-sized flea market sale on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call for table rental, (830) 303-5844.

VFW DANCE — The Good Ole Boys Band will be playing great country music on Sunday, Nov. 30, from 3-6:30 pm the Geronimo VFW Post, Highway 123 (five miles north of Seguin). SHS REUNION — The Seguin High School class of ‘99 reunion is just around the corner. Those that are interested in meeting up with their classmates are asked to please e-mail seguinhsclassof1999@gmail.com . In the e-mail please enclose your name and mailing address, you will then receive a letter containing all the reunion information.

CATTLEMEN’S CHRISTMAS — The Guada-Coma Chapter of the Independent Cattlemen’s Association will hold its annual Christmas Gala on Dec. 7, 2008, at the Texas Agricultural Education and Heritage Center, 390 Cordova Rd. in Seguin from 12:30-5:30 p.m. There will be dance music by Best Friends as well as a visit from Santa Claus. State Rep. Edmund Kuempel will be our guest auctioneer for the live auction. A delicious 12 ounce ribeye steak dinner will be provided by Next Door in New Berlin along with homemade desserts by the ladies of the chapter from 1-2 p.m. An open bar, prize drawings and a silent auction will also be part of the fun for a total cost of only $10 per ticket. YULEFEST APPLICATIONS — The Seguin Oakwood Art League is now accepting applications for the annual Yulefest Arts and Crafts Show, which will be held indoors at the Seguin Coliseum on Dec. 7 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. A 10-by-10 booth is $55.
